[ She'd thought this all would be temporary. All the evidence pointed to it. Yet, after all the dust cleared and things were back to normal--well, "normal"--she was still here.
Alone.
Not completely, of course. Part of her didn't want to acknowledge it, but now the only connection to home she had left was across the hall from her. Comforting, in a vague, uncomfortable way.
Maybe it's her programming. Maybe she needs a friend? Who knows what makes her reach out to him. There's still a lot she's trying to make sense of. ]
...You okay?
[ She'd been tempted to only ask about Jericho, but she's not that heartless. ]
[Honestly? Connor had a feeling that this was one of those moments where Wonderland was having a field day and things would go back to the way they were. The influx of people when it happened was too strange to be normal and then all of the glitches made it all the more clear that something was up.
Part of him expected something like this to happen, but seeing Hank, Markus, North, Kamski, and the other RK800 model suddenly disappear was verification. It was good to see Markus again and Kamski was... definitely not someone he expected to see. In the end, he knew the moment things started to get weird that he'd end up missing Hank again, and here he was gone. Just like nothing had happened.
If nothing, he was able to at least see Hank and Sumo one more time. He hadn't seen hints of Kara around exactly, but hearing her voice surprised him a little. He expected her to have gone home too, leaving him by himself again.]
I'm fine. [There was a slight pause.] You didn't go back to Detroit with the others?
[Don't get him wrong. He doesn't mind having her around, he just didn't expect it. If nothing else, they may not have been on great terms, but he did feel some comfort in knowing he wasn't the only one here anymore. Was this how loneliness felt? Surely that's why he'd gotten Jericho, wasn't it?]
[ The disappointment is palpable. She'd tried to inject some dry humor into the words, but that obviously failed. ]
I'm...sorry. I'm sure you would've preferred someone else.
[ Hank, she's implying. She wouldn't have minded taking his place, even if it meant him being trapped here over her. It was a selfish thought, but now she had less reason to hope she'd ever see Alice again soon. Indulging in some selfishness felt good, just a bit. ]
[She didn't seem fine, but who was he to push it? He wasn't really in a good graces with her as it stood.]
Adaptable or not... If you need anything, I'm just... right across the hall.
[Because he was adaptable due to his programming, but that didn't mean she was taking things okay. It made sense, though. She had a harder time than he did.]
[ Her face scrunches up momentarily. The room choice had been a matter of convenience initially, but now...
It's a while before she answers. ]
Thanks. [ Then, after another long pause: ] Same to you. Not that I'm sure of what I could give you.
[ Well, she had an idea, but it was hard to imagine him coming to her willingly for support. Even though they were equally deviant, she couldn't shake the feeling that he saw her as some lesser being, almost like Kamski had. She was no fancy prototype.
So yeah, her bitterness may have come through, just a tad. ]
[ Again, a long silence. Maybe it's her residual fear and the lingering dislike clouding his words with suspicion, she doesn't know. Maybe it's the feeling of inferiority? Whichever it is, she doesn't like that answer. ]
Nothing. I have no reason to get anything from you. We're both stuck here and... I'm not the same person anymore. [Android, but details.] There's no point in me trying to start anything, even if I wanted to.
[ Her eyes have narrowed, her hands balling into fists. The conflict inside her is strong. She knows he's like her. She knows he's right. Why is it so hard to let this go?
She breathes out in frustration. ]
I'll keep that in mind.
[ After that, she says nothing more. Otherwise she might give him an actual reason to start something. ]
[He really has nothing more to say than what's been said. He wasn't interested in pushing her into a conversation or talking to him if she didn't want to.]
Like I said. You know where to find me.
[And he'll leave it at that unless she wants to build off of that.]

[But be can't deny that. He would have preferred Hank over everyone else.]
How are you holding up...? [Since she's here for the long haul now; Or at least, however long Wonderland decides to have her here for.]

The question, though--it does make her eyebrows go up a bit. It's still an adjustment, getting used to the idea of him caring, even a little. ]
I'm fine.
[ Which is to say...of course she's not. Not that she needs to tell him. ]
I'm adaptable.

There's nothing you need to give in the first place.
[Just her company was good enough and her forgiveness if she so chose it]

What are you after?
